The Best Chocolate in Melbourne
CHOCOLATE IS NOT JUST FOR EASTER
Any time is a good time to explore some of the delectable Chocolatiers that have sprung up in and around Melbourne. Whether you are in search of the perfect Chocolate Truffle, a smooth creamy cup of artisan hot chocolate or a range of Easter goodies for the family you can't miss these awesome Chocolatiers in Melbourne.
HAIGHS
An Australian Family Owned company, originating in Adelaide and now Australia Wide. They have a wonderful selection of chocolates including the new delicious Dark Mango Chilli Truffle - Heaven! There is an extensive collection of both loose truffles you can buy by the piece and pre boxed chocolates. Don't miss the awesome easter range as well. There are several stores around Melbourne but don't miss the store in the Historic Block Arcade. Well worth the trip.
KOKO BLACK
Another Australian Company that has been on the scene since 2001, deighting Melbourne with a truly hand crafted range of chocolates for the most discerning chocolate lover. If you have the time please make sure you visit their store in the beautiful Royal Arcade off Bourke Street - stay for a hot chocolate or a wicked dessert or two! They have their own range of Easter Eggs as well.
BIBELOT
Just so you know, it's pronounced ("Bib - Loh"), this little gem has been around for a few years now and is primarily a cafe. Bibelot (enter via Coventry Street) occupies the front space of the warehouse-turned-cafe. Showcasing all of Chez Dré’s petits gâteaux and macarons, there are also handcrafted bonbons, biscuits and house-made gelato. Two chocolate taps sit ready to coat your ice cream.
A small retail space stocks gourmet gifts including nut-and-fruit confit, chocolate bars and patisserie cookbooks. At the rear is a high-tea salon, fitted out with a custom-made black-and-white mosaic wall and plush emerald-green armchairs. The salon offers three fixed menus. There is a small range of Easter products but get in quick. Well worth a short tram ride to South Melbourne.
MORK CHOCOLATE BREW HOUSE
Melbourne is a city of coffee lovers, but if Hot Chocolate is more your thing then this is the place for you. Forget Cadbury’s. Mörk means ‘dark’ in Swedish; these chocolate powders come with a hefty cacao count. Husband-and-wife team Josefin and Kiril source cacao liquor from Venezuela, cocoa powder from Ghana and unrefined coconut blossom sugar from West Java, blending all three in their ‘brews’.
It comes as no surprise that the duo have a background in coffee. Kiril trained as a barista, and Josefin was working as a coffee roaster in Sweden, demonstrating dark chocolate tempering, when they first met.
